2027 legislation
Time tracking becomes mandatory in 2027. Here's what it means
From 1 January 2027, every employer in Belgium must register their staff's working hours. This is your plain-language guide to what changes, when, and how to prepare without the hassle.
The 2027 obligation, in short
The general duty that concerns every Belgian employer — three things to know.
The obligation follows a 2019 European Court of Justice ruling and was confirmed on 27 November 2025; the full legal text is still being finalised. We keep an eye on any changes and adapt our app free of charge.
Every employer must register hours
From 1 January 2027, working-time registration becomes a legal duty for every Belgian employer — private and public.
You choose the method
The system has to be objective, reliable and flexible. A mobile app, a time clock or software all qualify — your call.
It has to be watertight
Records must be digital, accurate and tamper-proof. Paper and shared Excel files no longer count. Proposals mention keeping records at least five years.
Done-it ticks every box
Digital, watertight, GDPR-proof and connected to payroll — and it already handles CheckIn@Work and CIAO today.
Before 2027
Your sector may already have to register
The 2027 law is the general rule following obligations that already apply in specific sectors. If any of these is yours, the clock is already ticking.
